Field Trip Performances

Dorothy, the Tin Man and the rest of the gang will be performing at Texas Hall on the campus of the University of Texas at Arlington. Our spring musical field trip is not only a fun event for all, but it is also educational and can fit into your curriculum! Your Language arts class is taken from page to stage. The musical is usually an adaptation of a classic tale that can be brought to life before the eyes of your students. The adventure of live theater and audience participation molds students into a creative learning environment that will never forget and will use again.

Exposure to the arts and an education in the arts strengthens a student’s problem-solving and critical thinking skills, adding to overall academic achievement, self-confidence, discipline and success far beyond the classroom. Former U.S. Secretary of Education, Richard W. Riley says “I believe arts education in music, theater, dance and the visual arts is one of the most creative ways we have to find the gold that is buried just beneath the surface. They (children) have an enthusiasm for life, a spark of creativity, and vivid imaginations that need training…training that prepares them to become confident young men and women…The creativity of the arts and the joy of music should be central to the education of every American child.”

Theatre Arlington whole-heartedly believes the arts are an essential part of a community’s vibrancy and therefore places a high priority on the educational components of all of its programs. Our all-youth production is professionally directed, choreographed and musically directed, giving participants the educational and creative opportunity to work with first-class theater artists from the community. Student participants receive instruction in characterization, stage presence and theatrical concepts during the rehearsals and performances of each production. All backstage personnel are also students, whether serving as stage manager, running crew, sound and light board technicians or in other important behind-the-scenes roles. These students receive a crash-course in technical theater.

It is active learning and creative awareness at its finest that will empower the student to think critically and nurture the whole child
