In creating Outreach programs for underserved populations,
Theatre Arlington hopes to narrow the gap between what is necessary in arts education programs and what is available to all youth in this area.
ACT UPS (Applied Creative Thinking Using Performance Skills): Developed twelve years ago as a partnership with the Arlington Independent School District to target culturally diverse, at risk students. The ACT UPS program now reaches over 1,500 at-risk 4th and 5th grade children each year at Speer Elementary, Crow Elementary, and Thornton Elementary Schools.
Camp Be a Star: A week long theater camp for homeless and transitional housing children in Arlington. A partnership with the Arlington Independent School District, this unique camp teaches theatrical and communication skills and helps improve self-esteem and confidence.
SRO (Standing Room Only): SRO is Theatre Arlington’s Ambassadors of Good Will to the community-at-large and is comprised of 11 young people aged 12-17. This youth troupe performs a 30-minute musical revue and tours to festivals, hospitals, conferences, meetings, nursing homes and more.
TAG Players (Theatre Arlington Guild Players): Fourteen energetic, outgoing and creative individuals, over 50 years of age, provide reader’s theater entertainment to nursing homes, social meetings and other events.
Charitable Donations: Each season, scores of tickets are donated to other non-profits for their raffles, silent auctions, and other fundraising efforts.
Ticket Give-a-Ways: Tickets to family are provided to the underserved in our community. We have donated to the Boys & Girls Club, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Arlington ISD, Woman’s Shelter, Mission Arlington, AIDS Service of North Texas and the Arlington Public Library.
Scholarships: Deserving and need-based students are awarded a scholarship to register for our theater school.
TAR Program (Theatre Arlington Reads): Five senior citizens go into elementary schools, Title I schools and libraries and read to children. We also give away 500 tickets and 1,000 coupons to the current youth show.
